Trekking with a dog on the Sentiero Spirito del Bosco. Medium Route
Bauciao friends today I'll tell you about the new itinerary suitable for a trek with a dog that we did on the Sentiero Spirito del Bosco, a magical and enchanted place that will please children as well as us dogs. The route is of medium difficulty, and we suggest you have equipment such as chopsticks and trekking shoes: certainly you cannot miss a bottle to make the water foot in Prim'Alpe which is very good but is also the only fountain you will encounter on the route.
There is no better way than to escape from the city, away from smog and noise, to be together in nature but above all to strengthen the relationship with your human. The itineraries me and my human are based on fundamental principles such as walk together and get away from everyday city life to clear our minds and enjoy some healthy silence.
For this path you need a little training, this itinerary is of medium difficulty because the slope is 16% and is constant at least up to Prim'Alpe, then it becomes flat for a while for a last climb up to Terz'Alpe. It is a couple of hours of walking outward and the same number of hours back, but surely you will be so enchanted by all the Spirits who live in the woods that you will stop to admire and photograph them: we suggest you follow the path "per di su" on the outward journey and "down" on the way back as you will be a little more tired when you return.
You will find the Spiriti del Bosco path about halfway through the entire itinerary, do not give up: the initial part are cobbled bends but then becomes a dirt road once you are immersed in the actual path.
In reality I have never been on a leash, we have met very few people luckily ... apart from Prim'Alpe where we met a school group on a trip and there my human had to "tie" me, not so much for children but more for my safety: I can't stand strangers touching my head and using the falsetto voice that shakes me.
Ahhhh I recommend friends, even if you put collars or drops against ticks, fleas etc .. never forget to always check us at the end of the path that you never know: my human uses to brush me thoroughly just to be sure not to have taken it none in the path.
How to reach us
If you move by car you can practically arrive in the village of Canzo (Como), reach the end of via Gajum where you will find a large parking lot and from there start your journey on foot.
If you use the By public transport it is possible to arrive from Milan and Como on the train and from both departures it will take about an hour and a half. As soon as you leave Canzo station, which is very small, go towards the town center and from there reach via Gajum which is an uphill road from where Via per le Alpi starts. lots of very nice dog colleagues ... they barked at me about everything as we passed 🙂
The Trenord Milano-Canzo train for a dog and a person costs € 2,30 + € 6,50. And if you want to stop for a weekend to take other walks in the surrounding area (such as the Corni di Canzo), there are several hotels that they accept dogs in the province of Como.
The Route: Spirito del Bosco path
- Respect: for nature and for every living being you will meet: human or not;
- Caution: Always consider the dog's physical preparation and yours;
- Education: You always greet those you meet on the trek, do not be unpleasant;
- Weather: weather conditions on the way change often, keep an eye on the forecasts.
Backpack Tips: Lightweight.
For this itinerary we suggest you always take one with you water bottle (with its beak for us) even if the path is practically all in the shade because you will find only one source of water and it is possible to take fresh water only at the beginning of the route or at the farm once you arrive at the end. To go trekking with a dog, we strongly suggest using shoes, if your dog likes them and tolerates them, or, as I do, you have to put some balm under your paws so as not to hurt us.
Always carry with you k-way e cape in case the weather is bad or if it is uncertain, the weather changes often and quickly.
Trekking shoes, chopsticks and as always a small first aid kit for us dogs and for you humans… oh there has never happened to go back without at least a scratch.
There is a farmhouse at the beginning and one at the end of the route or you could bring a packed lunch and have lunch directly on the grass or on the tables you will encounter. We stayed in a farmhouse in Trez'Alpe and there I met two new very nice dog friends of the owners: a male and a female.
